Yes, I'm still producing art! Yet at a very slow pace. I should have been working on commissions, but the urge to try acrilycs suddenly came over me and this is the result.
This was a little practice piece with acrylics. A horse ofcourse, the ref was one of an Andalusian.
I cant say I've fallen in love with the medium. It dried way too fast on the canvas and I couldnt mix the colours the way I wanted to. How people succesfully can mix dark and light colours with acrylics, I dont know. I also couldnt get all the detail in.
It started out as fun, but at the end became very frustrating. The good think about acrylics though is you can go over a part very fast to correct a mistake. I thougt I would say something positive about my experience too.
I think I'll give oilpaints another try.
Then again, it was my first try ever with these paints. There's probably a lot to learn about painting with acrylics. I'm just too impatient and want it to go perfect the first time.
That is gorgeous! I think it turned out QUITE well! I think that the whiteness of the horse and not a lot of detail makes it look like there WAS a burst of light.
Acrylics are a total b*tch lol! It's taken me several attempts over about 7 years to get anywhere with them. Keep persisting even if you don't feel like it right now, maybe come back to it at some point. I find it easiest to work from the darkest colours to the lightest ones, with very gradual changes in shade. It's pretty much impossible to mix the colour on the drawing surface itself, like you can with oils.
I'm much the same with oils, can't get the hang of them at all... I hope to one day, because they're meant to be this amazing epiphany, nothing can beat them as an artistic medium... once tried you are converted etc. I hope to get the hang of them one day.
Anyway!
I love the dark background contrast with the light horse. Actually the areas where you've blended look fine to me, I like the gradual blending in the background. The strong lighting is nice, that always lends itself well to acrylics, because you can 'block' the colour areas in easily. He's lovely
I have the same problem, if i try something new i always want it to be perfect too hahaha But it think if you don't fall in love with it right away it will probably never be your favorite medium to use. It is fun to try new things and Remember you'll always learn from trying new things by the way, i think his nose and mouth turned out very well, but the rest is not as realistic as i am used to see in your work, i guess that's because you had trouble putting details in But the whole picture is nice, i am not good myself at all painting realistic with acrylics
Very nice! It is practically glowing! I too am frustrated with acrylics! I find that using water helps tremendously! I have a glass of water for my brushes, and a bowl of water for my sponges and stuff.........I mix water into the paint a lot too to get different consistancies. My new painting "Mirakel" is my 4th time ever using acrylic paints, I have a lot to learn. I bought a couple of books about them. That is how I taught myself to use pastels, through trial and error and books! You have amazing talent! You will master them I am sure! (now oils are something I am very afarid to try for some reason )

Get your creative juices flowing and design a movie poster for "Paper Heart" that focuses on the theme "What Does Love Mean to Me?".
The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing... A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!
