Artist's Comments

A drawing of my dog Sammy, who we had to put to sleep some weeks ago. I made this one for my father and framed it. I'm pretty happy with it, she really looks like she did when she was alive. The only thing that bothers me a bit, are the white hairs on her chest. I should have put more time in those. Now, they look a bit unreal.

Gosh, she was such a sweet dog... we still miss her a lot.

29x42cm, colored pencils.

Edit: I got an ODD from :iconoibyrdsdds: on ODDS for March 27th 2006!! I'm so proud! Sammy deserves the attention!
(Crap, I never seem to get the icon thing straight, once more it refuses to appear.... have never been able to insert an emoticon either.... )

Edit: Woohoo! I got another Daily Deviation with Sammy. This time by :iconthepencilclub: , look at [link] (the journal of april 4th 2007).

"THE SUN NEVER SAYS" by Hafiz
(Translated by Daniel Ladinsky)

Even after all this time
The sun never says to the earth,
"You owe me."

Look what happens with a love like that --
it lights the whole world.

Thank you. Such a shame we have to lose our pets at one point, but we have to remember all the good things they brought us in their lives.

I can't believe this is in coloured pencils (:
It has a real life to it the picture, it's lovely, a great way to remember a loved one.

I really love this. It is so life like, and I think there is a third quality of life in it. Only you, as the owner, could have put it in - it is the life and personality of the dog itself. The dog left a piece of itself in your heart, and you left a piece in the artwork. That is a talent that few artists have, but really makes the art a masterpiece of skill, emotion, and life. Congratulations for a fantastic piece.

The greatest tragedy of an artist is that they spend their entire lives trying to create something they will never truly see.
